STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS AVAILABLE!
The Travel Grant Application was distributed by the Program Chair via email and the deadline is August 24, 2018.

The registration process will also allow you to donate to the MWCBS Jim Sack Student Travel Grant fund, which helps subsidize costs to the annual conference for the youngest members of our organization, who find it increasingly difficult in these times of shrinking university budgets to secure conference funding. The MWCBS relies on member contributions to fund the grants, and the donations we receive will determine the number of awards we are able to give out. Donations are tax deductible since the MWCBS is an official 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

LOCAL GUIDE TO LEXINGTON
Welcome to Lexington!
The University of Kentucky is pleased to host the 2018 MWCBS . Lexington has a rich history that dates back to the American Revolution as the city takes its name from the Battle of Lexington of April 1775 and is the county seat of Fayette county, named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette. It is best known for being the symbolic heart of the Kentucky Bluegrass Region and can, with some credibility, be called the Horse Capital of the World. The city is also rich with historic sites from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but also boasts the cosmopolitan and vibrant Distillery District which offers a host of bars, restaurants, breweries, live music, and, of course, distilleries for the curious traveler to sample. There are plenty of eateries, shops, and entertainment venues located within walking distance of the Embassy Suites by Hilton Lexington Green and others, like downtown and the Distillery District are just a short taxi or Uber ride away.
Getting around:
The Embassy Suites offers a complimentary shuttle to and from Blue Grass Airport (LEX). Additionally, taxi, Uber, and Lyft rides may be arranged to/from the airport with pickups at baggage claim and drop-offs curbside at the terminal. For those who wish to rent a car there are also a large number of rental car options available in the terminal. For a handy guide of these transport options with phone numbers, please see the Blue Grass Airport (LEX) ground transportation page at https://bluegrassairport.com/ground.html.
The hotel concierge for the complimentary shuttle may be contacted at 1-859-271-4000.

Home to Kentucky’s first millionaire, The Hunt Morgan House was built in 1814 and includes the Alexander T. Hunt Civil War Museum with items relating to Hunt's grandson Confederate General John Morgan. Guided tours are available Wednesday through Sunday. Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate commemorates the life and times of famous orator and statesman; tours run Monday through Sunday. Architecture buffs can download a free app “LexArch” available on iPhone or Android for an insider’s look at thirteen buildings near, and including, Fayette County's Old Courthouse. The Downtown Arts Center showcases regular musical and theatrical performances, while the ArtsPlace hosts rotating arts exhibits. Nearby downtown is the revitalized Distillery District, a trendy haven of artist studios, shops, bars, and restaurants located in and around the old James E. Pepper distillery. Bluegrass music, along with Americana, roots and, country rock are on regularly tap at Willie's Locally Known on Southland Drive. This popular bar books bands every weekend, and often on week days as well. And just outside our hotel’s door you will find Lakeside Live music on Friday and Saturday evening.
As one would expect from the Horse Capital of the World, options abound for the equestrian experience. Kentucky Horse Park features nearly 50 breeds of horses, along with number of museums, galleries, theaters, and working farm exhibits. The park is open daily, 9am to 5pm.
Next door is the American Saddlebred Museum, which celebrates the role of the American Saddlebred in shaping American history and culture. Visit Keeneland Race Course to experience one of the world’s most beloved racetracks. A national historic landmark, the grounds are open daily from 6:30am to 5pm; guided tours are also offered.
Of course, no visit to Lexington would be complete without sampling some of its famous bourbon. In downtown Lexington, Town Branch Distillery, near Rupp Arena and the Lexington Center, and James E. Pepper Distilling Co., in the Distillery District, both offer regular tours. For those with time for a trip outside the city, The Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey Distillery, Buffalo Trace, and Four Roses Distilling Company are also popular tour excursions.
Saturday evening 8PM enjoy a tour of historic downtown lexington hosted by Dr. Jon Coleman.
Free to all conference attendees (families and friends included) this walking tour highlights Lexington's history, architecture and occasionally scandalous past. Afterward, explore the nightlife downtown. Shuttle provided.
